Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation, also called Sedation Dentistry, involves the use of a mild narcotic to sedate the patient prior to treatment. Typically the sedative is administered in the form of a pill or liquid which undergoes rapid absorption and has a relatively short duration of effect.

During sedation, your dentist will monitor the patient using a pulse oximeter to monitor pulse rate, respiratory rate, color etc. Often a second staff member will be present during treatment to assist in the monitoring process.

Patients treated with Oral Sedation must be accompanied home and may not drive or drink alcohol for a specified period post treatment.
